The BLET is backing the candidacy of Sarah Elfreth — the daughter of a retired BLET member — in the upcoming November elections. Elfreth currently serves as a State Senator representing Maryland’s 30th District, where she has a record of supporting unions and working Americans. She is currently campaigning to win election to the U.S. House of Representatives for Maryland’s 3rd District.
Earlier this month she met with BLET Vice President and National Legislative Representative Vince Verna and BLET Director of Political Affairs Brendan Sullivan. After meeting the candidate, Vice President Verna said, “As the daughter of a BLET member, Elfreth will take middle-class union values to Congress and be a partner in our fight to preserve Railroad Retirement and protect railroad safety,”
“My father Jim ran trains for SEPTA and was a proud member of BLET Division 71 out of Philadelphia,” Elfreth said. “Mid-career, after working mostly nights and weekends, he was hurt on the job but didn’t have to worry about losing our house. His Brothers and Sisters of the BLET had his back. I am grateful that they have my back in this campaign.”
