PHILADELPHIA — A downed wire in North Jersey is causing delays on trains headed through the area, according to an Amtrak spokesman.
The problem, which began about 6:30 this morning, means only two tracks are operating on a section near Newark, N.J.
As a result, trains heading into and out of New York’s Penn Station were experiencing delays of about 45 minutes as of 8:30, Cliff Cole said.
How particular routes are being affected is difficult to assess, he said.
Some trains out of Philadelphia might leave on time, only to be delayed en route to New York, while trains from New York would be delayed in reaching Philadelphia.
New Jersey Transit trains, which share the tracks, are also behind schedule.
Commuters on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line and Raritan Valley lines can expect delays of 60 minutes or more, spokesman Dan Stessel said.
When service will be fully restored is unclear, Cole said.
