More than 190 people died and hundreds are still missing after Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida late last week and moved through Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Homes and even entire communities were destroyed by fast moving water. Help is available to BLET members and their families who have been caught in the hurricane’s path of destruction.

If you live in any area that was impacted by Hurricane Helene or another natural disaster in the past 24 months and you participate in the Union Plus Credit Card, Mortgage, Life Insurance, Accident Insurance, Auto Insurance, Personal Loan or Retiree Healthcare programs, then you may be eligible for a Union Plus Disaster Relief Grant. Eligible members must have their primary residence in a county or parish designated by FEMA as eligible for Individual Assistance. No proof of property damage required. Learn more at unionplus.org/disaster.

Additionally, the Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund is available to assist IBT members who have suffered damage to, or loss of property due to a natural disaster, including hurricanes, floods, and other extreme weather-related events. Members needing assistance after a disaster must submit documentation to their Local Division, showing proof of loss or damage. After review of the documents submitted, the Local Division may apply for assistance by filing an Affiliate Request for Assistance Form. Please click here for more information about the Teamster Disaster Relief Fund.

The Teamsters are also soliciting donations to help the victims of Hurricane Helene. If you wish to help, details regarding monetary donations and urgently-needed tangible donations can be found in this memo from Anthony Rosa, Director of the Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund.
