MANSFIELD, Texas — A section of track where a Union Pacific train derailed Monday morning in southern Mansfield reopened Tuesday morning.
Twenty-eight cars carrying between 100 and 110 tons of coal each derailed early Monday near Mitchell Road, Union Pacific spokesman John Bromley said. The train’s 126 cars were carrying coal from Wyoming to a power plant in southern Texas.
The track, which averages 11 trains a day, reopened about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Bromley said. Some trains were diverted to other rails during the track closure.
“Our priority is to get the railroad reopened,” Bromley said. “Cleaning up the coal will take a few days, I suspect. There is quite a bit of coal on the ground.”
The coal cleanup is not expected to delay train traffic, he said.
