In mid-March the BLET held its initial meeting with workers at Watco following the union’s certification by the National Mediation Board. It was fitting that the meeting was held on Saturday, March 8 — which is International Women’s Day — and that Sister Tandi Colibert (pictured in pink hoodie) was appointed to serve as the group’s Grievance Chair.

International Women’s Day, which is held during Women’s History Month, commemorates women’s fight for equality and liberation along with the women’s rights movement.

In addition to appointing a Grievance Committee, which will be assigned to BLET Division 16 (the union’s short line division), those in attendance filled out BLET applications and discussed their initial contract requests.

The BLET hosted three meetings throughout the day on March 8 to accommodate the diverse work schedules of the new Watco employees.
