Each year on April 28, unions including the BLET recognize Workers Memorial Day and remember American workers who have suffered and died on the job.
On Workers Memorial Day the BLET honors two of our members who tragically passed away while on the job in the past year: Jerry Arterberry, Vice Local Chairman of Division 604 (Madill, Okla.); and Clay Burt, a member of BLET Division 212 (Sweetwater, Texas).
Arterberry, 54, suffered a medical emergency and died while working at BNSF’s rail yard in Madill on September 7, 2024. Burt, 63, was killed in a grade crossing accident in Pecos, Texas, while working for the Union Pacific Railroad on December 18, 2024
