Retired BLET General Chairman Tony Smith, who served the CSXT Eastern Lines GCA for 22 years, passed away on June 15, 2024. He was 71 years old. He is survived by his wife Ann, sons Bryant and Anthony and grandson Sam. Tony and Ann were married for 48 years.
Brother Smith was a member of BLET Division 332 (Montgomery, Ala.) and first joined the Brotherhood on July 1, 1979. He was elected General Chairman in 1991 and continuously served in that position until he retired in 2013. He was currently one of only five men to serve as General Chairman of the CSXT Eastern Lines GCA since its inception in 1967. A rock of stability for his members, Brother Smith was known as one of the most hard-nosed and tenacious General Chairmen, in his time serving the Brotherhood. He was a good man and a great advocate. He will be missed by all those who knew him well but true to Tony’s character, he will not soon be forgotten.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 12 pm from the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Troy, Alabama.
