ADAIR, Iowa — A railroad in western Iowa has been shut down because of a construction crane that toppled onto the tracks and killed the crane operator.
The crane was moving a beam in a construction zone on an Interstate 80 bridge near Adair on Tuesday. The machine toppled through a hole in the bridge deck and onto the tracks below.
Authorities say rail traffic is being rerouted.
The operator worked for A.M. Cohron & Son Inc. of Atlantic. He was 27-year-old Dustin Flinn.
Crews at the site about 50 miles west of Des Moines are replacing the bridge over the railroad.
