TOLEDO, Ohio — One driver was cited when law enforcement personnel in Lucas, Fulton, and Williams counties enforced railroad grade-crossing safety laws Tuesday during the awareness program Operation Lifesaver, the Toledo Blade reported.
The train went from Toledo to Bryan. Law enforcement personnel were on the train, in the air, and on the ground watching for violators as the train passed crossings, he said.
The lieutenant said the route was selected because of the high number of crashes.
The train passed the crossing on County Road 13 in Fulton County where a 29-year-old Wauseon man was killed Aug. 15. His car was struck by an Amtrak train after he drove around a “road closed” sign and train warning devices.
