WORCESTER, Mass. ― The Worcester City Council is preparing to vote on a proposed $120 million expansion of the CSX rail yard.

Officials say the investment by CSX will more than double the size of the current rail yard and bring 20 commuter rail trains to the city. That will result in more options for commuters who live in Worcester and work in Boston, or for people who live in the Boston-area but work in Worcester.

Some residents worry the project will negatively impact traffic in nearby neighborhoods and result in more pollution and noise.

CSX has promised to spend several million dollars on road improvements and community projects.

The city council is expected to vote Tuesday on whether to give a green light to the plan, which has been approved by a council subcommittee.
