KANKAKEE, Ill. — Fifteen years ago, a southbound City of New Orleans passenger train struck a semitrailer at a rail crossing in Bourbonnais. Eleven people died and 122 were injured on that fateful night of March 15, 1999. The driver of the semi, who ultimately was blamed for the accident, died in 2007.
