HARRISONBURG, Va. — Two Harrisonburg men have been charged with setting off an explosive device near James Madison University.

The Harrisonburg Fire Department says 25-year-old Andrew J. Lavedan and 21-year-old Joshua A. Tripp were arrested over the weekend.

A small explosive device was set off Thursday on railroad tracks in Norfolk Southern Corp.’s Harrisonburg yard. Authorities say the explosion caused minor damage to the tracks but wasn’t related to terrorism.

Harrisonburg fire marshal Arthur Miller would not speculate on a motive or why the railroad track was targeted.

It was not immediately clear whether the suspects had secured attorneys.
