(The following story appeared on the Seattle Times website on November 14.)

EVERETT, Wash. — Two freight cars carrying 34,000 gallons each of butane derailed at a Burlington Northern Santa Fe switch station yesterday afternoon.

Emergency crews shut down traffic at the 400 block of West Marine View Drive when the incident occurred at 4 p.m. but reopened the road when it was determined that neither tank car was leaking.

No one was injured.

The cause is still being investigated, but rail officials said it appears to have been a track problem. There were no injuries and sabotage has been ruled out.

Rail officials said the incident had no impact on other freight lines or Amtrak trains using the tracks. Normal operations were expected to resume at midnight last night.
