PHILADELPHIA — SEPTA was the preferred route for about 24,000 sports fans traveling to the South Philadelphia Sports Complex on Saturday, January 12, for the Philadelphia Eagles playoff game, the Flyers and Phantoms hockey games, and the motorcross event.

More than 22,500 riders used the SEPTA Broad Street Line to and from the sporting events including more than 15,500 Eagles fans. Many riders parked their cars at SEPTA regional rail station parking lots in the suburbs and transferred from regional rail trains to the Broad Street Line in Center City. Other riders parked their cars in Center City or used the SEPTA Market- Frankford Line to Center City and then transferred to the Broad Street Line.

In addition, more than 1,250 riders used the shuttle bus service that SEPTA operated from the special parking area set-up in the Navel Shipyard to the sports complex.

“It was a great day for Philadelphia sports fans with the victories by the Eagles, Flyers and Phantoms,” said SEPTA General Manager Jack Leary. “It was also a great day for SEPTA because thousands of sports fans discovered that SEPTA is the quickest route to the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. About one quarter of the fans traveling to the events used SEPTA.”

The SEPTA Broad Street Line proved to be the quickest route to the events with local and express trains providing service to and from the South Philadelphia Sports Complex about every five minutes throughout the day on Saturday.
