(The following story by Christian Bottorff appeared on the Nashville Tennessean website on January 20.)
TENNESSEE — Railroad crews spent several hours yesterday placing three train cars — one of them carrying methanol, a highly flammable material — back on tracks near the downtown Union Station.
Nothing spilled from the tanker car carrying the methanol or the other two cars, which were carrying bricks.
David Hall, spokesman for CSX Transportation, said the cars tipped over slightly at the Kayne Avenue railroad yard next to 11th Avenue Industrial Boulevard at around 9:30 a.m. The cause of the derailment is under investigation, he said. By 2:15 p.m., the tracks were cleared and the cars were back on the tracks, Hall said.
There were no injuries, said Hall and fire officials who responded.
