IRWINDALE, Calif. — Four cars of a freight train have derailed in Irwindale, but authorities say no one was hurt in the accident.

Los Angeles County Fire dispatch supervisor Andre Gougis says hazmat crews arriving on the scene at about 3:50 a.m. Tuesday found one of the cars leaking an unknown substance. It turned out to be nontoxic.

Gougis says the incident occurred on tracks belonging to Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway near the intersection of Arrowhead Highway and Azusa Canyon Road. No streets were closed because of the derailment, however, and no one was evacuated.

Irwindale is 20 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
