FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Five CSX Corp. railroad cars derailed Saturday morning out side a Cargill Inc. food-process ing plant on River Road in Cumberland County.
No one was injured, said State Trooper Greg Steffens, and no motor vehicles were involved.
Due to the accident, which happened around 10:55 a.m., a portion of River Road was closed to traffic.
Steffens said about 15 to 20 cars had gone through a switch in the track when the switch failed. None of the cars rolled over, he said.
“They ran off the track but stayed upright,” Steffens said.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation was on the scene. “They will be out there through Sunday,” Steffens said.
A CSX spokesman at company headquarters in Florida could not be immediately reached for comment Saturday.
