DECATUR, Ala. — Eight freight cars of a CSX train derailed Monday at the south end of the railroad bridge over the Tennessee River. No one was injured.
The derailment occurred about 5 p.m. between the bridge and Wilson Street (Alabama 20).
Residents of Harbor View apartments said they heard a series of “booms” and several cars overturned several yards from the buildings.
Both CSX and Norfolk-Southern Railway use the tracks, which serve several plants.
Officials said there were no hazardous materials in the tank cars. Several cars were carrying scrap metal.
