Yesterday, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) announced support for the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Deployment Act of 2010 (S. 3591), which was introduced Wednesday by Sens. John Rockefeller (D- W.Va.) and George Voinovich (R-Ohio).

The bill would promote CCS research and provide incentives to develop and deploy full-scale CCS technologies. S. 3591 builds on past efforts and proposals while creating new bridges to cover the gap between CSS research and development, and commercial adoption, Rockefeller and Voinovich said in a joint statement.

The bill would ensure that clean-coal technology can be deployed and implemented as soon as possible, said AAR President and Chief Executive Officer Ed Hamberger in a prepared statement.

“Support for measures like this, which ensure the future use of coal, also supports the health of America’s railroads and the vital link for businesses all across the country to the global marketplace,” he said.
