CLEVELAND, December 6 — The AFL-CIO is organizing a national Call Congress day in an effort to derail harmful Fast Track legislation.

Today, Congress is voting on a measure that would explicitly prohibit the addition of enforceable protection for workers’ rights and the environment in Fast-Tracked agreements. Fast Track would aid powerful corporations searching the globe for cheap labor — lowering standards globally for workers’ rights, public health, consumers and the environment.

The vote is expected to take place today, so time is of the essence. To call the U.S. House of Representatives, members should dial: (800) 393-1082.

In particular, the AFL-CIO is targeting three Representatives in Ohio and Michigan — Congressman Ralph Regula (OH-16), Congressman Ney (OH-18) and Congressman Hoekstra (MI-02).

If you live in these districts, or know someone who does, it is critical that you call these members of congress. Hoekstra and Ney have committed to vote no and Regula is still undecided. The White House is putting an enormous amount of pressure on these members, and we need to do the same.

The AFL-CIO is asking BLE and GIA members to tell their member of Congress to vote no on the Fast Track legislation. The vote is expected to come down to the wire, so the AFL-CIO needs the help of the BLE and GIA to keep the pressure on Congress.

You can download fliers, and send e-mails to your member of congress via the AFL-CIO website.
