NEWARK, N.J. — Despite drops in ridership and service reductions at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic, the 110-year-old Hudson River rail tunnels wracked havoc for passengers riding Amtrak and NJ Transit trains in 2020 and into early 2021. Rail passengers experienced 12,653 minutes of delay in 2020 due to problems attributed to the aging tunnel infrastructure, according to Northeast Corridor Commission data released by the Gateway Development Corporation Monday.
