HORNELL, N.Y. — Alstom Transport has signed a 5-year, $80 million parts supply agreement with Amtrak for work associated with the Northeast passenger fleet.
The contract, which was announced Thursday, is for managing spare parts supply for Amtrak. It also has the company providing technical assistance for Amtrak’s Acela passenger fleet.
“There is no impact for Hornell,” said John Mousaw, Alstom Transport’s NAFTA communications manager, via e-mail, “but this is a good order for our overall business in North America.”
During the life of the contract, Alstom will manage the supply chain to deliver complete overhaul packages, corrective maintenance materials and scheduled maintenance kits. Amtrak operates the largest passenger railroad network in the United States. The publicly-funded operation has 22,000 miles of track providing services to more than 500 destinations in 26 states.
The Acela fleet consists of 20 high-speed train sets and operates in the Northeast corridor between New York City, Boston and Washington, D.C.
“This contract is important for us in continuing our long-term relationship with Amtrak,” said Roelof van Ark, Alstom Transport’s NAFTA region president. “We are very committed to supporting Amtrak’s maintenance of their Acela fleet.”
