WASHINGTON, D.C. — Amtrak says a break in an electrical wire near a Hudson River tunnel caused yesterday’s problems on the Northeast Corridor.

Amtrak spokesman Cliff Black says the break happened internally and wasn’t visible to inspectors.

The tunnel was closed for six hours. A parallel tunnel that trains normally could have used instead was closed for scheduled maintenance.

Amtrak says 40 of its Northeast Corridor trains were affected by the problem.
