NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Service is returning to normal after a Boston-bound Amtrak Acela train struck and killed a man in New Jersey Tuesday morning.
An Amtrak spokesman said the engineer on the train did not realize there was a problem. The authorized speed on that stretch of Northeast Corridor is 125 miles per hour.
Dan Stessel, an Amtrak spokesman, said an engineer on a southbound New Jersey Transit train spotted the body near New Brunswick and alerted officials.
The Acela train was inspected when it stopped in Newark, N.J., and taken out of service. The 161 passengers were put on other trains.
