(The Associated Press circulated the following story on September 2.)
RALEIGH, N.C. — Amtrak is amending its schedules and rerouting some trains on its East Coast service in advance of the approach of Hurricane Frances.
Thursday’s service on the southbound Palmetto has been suspended.
The southbound Silver Meteor and Silver Star will terminate in Jacksonville, Florida. No alternate transportation will be provided for the cancelled portions of those routes. The northbound trains Palmetto, Silver Meteor and Silver Star will operate as scheduled.
Meanwhile, the Raleigh-to-Charlotte Piedmont, as well as the Charlotte-to-New York Carolinian and New York-to-New Orleans Crescent will run their normal schedules.
Each of the trains affected makes several stops in North Carolina.
