DULUTH, Minn. — The proposed high-speed commuter rail line between Duluth and the Twin Cites may benefit from an Amtrak funding bill introduced today by U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar.

Oberstar introduced a $14.3 billion bill that would make major investments in Amtrak rail lines across the country. Included in the bill is $850 million to finance new high-speed rail projects across the country. Proponents of the Duluth-to-Minneapolis line would be eligible to apply for funding.

The Minnesota House and Senate have approved public works bills that include money to study the proposed passenger line, though Gov. Tim Pawlenty has not supported the project.
