WASHINGTON — Amtrak is restoring more of its high-speed Acela service out of Washington.

Beginning Monday, Acela trains will run nine round-trips between Union Station and New York’s Penn Station each week day. That’s three more than Amtrak is currently operating, but it’s down from the 15 week day round-trips that Acela was making between the nation’s capital and the Big Apple earlier this year, before Amtrak suspended Acela service because of brake problems.

Also starting Monday, Amtrak is boosting the number of Acela round-trips between Washington and Boston from one to three each week day, and it will increasing Acela weekend service.

The passenger railroad says the schedule should expand further as more Acela trains are put back on the tracks in coming months.
