(Amtrak issued the following news release on September 19.)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Due to a number of downed trees along the Northeast Corridor between Baltimore and Philadelphia, Amtrak has modified its operating plan for the morning hours of Friday, Sept. 19.

The previously announced Washington northbound departures at 5:35 a.m., 7:00 a.m., 7:30 a.m., 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. have been cancelled to enable work crews to clear the railroad and address necessary track and electrical repairs. The first northbound departure from Washington is currently planned for 8:35 a.m. (train 84). Southbound trains scheduled to operate from New York to Washington have also been adjusted.

In addition, all service on the Harrisburg line between Harrisburg and Philadelphia has been suspended today due to downed trees.

Due to these schedule adjustments, passengers are urged to call Amtrak to verify their train number and departure time prior to leaving for the station.

There are currently no cancellations of Clocker trains between Philadelphia and New York.

Between New York and Boston, Amtrak plans to operate a normal schedule today with the exception of train 2150, the 8:03 a.m. northbound departure from New York, which has been cancelled.

Amtrak has cancelled the westbound Capitol Limited (train 29 from Washington to Chicago), the westbound Cardinal (train 51 from Washington to Chicago), the westbound Three Rivers (train 41) and the Pennsylvanian (trains 42/43 between Pittsburgh and New York).

With the exception of limited intra-Florida service, all Amtrak trains operating south of Washington, D.C., have been cancelled today, including the Palmetto, Silver Star, Silver Meteor, Crescent, Auto Train, Piedmont, and Regional service in Virginia. The Carolinian, which normally operates between New York and Charlotte, will operate north of Washington only. Amtrak will operate intra-Florida service representing trains 90 and 97 between Miami and Jacksonville only.

Amtrak will make additional schedule adjustments and cancellations as necessary, keeping the safety of our passengers as our highest priority. Amtrak will reaccommodate passengers as services permit and will waive exchange and cancellation fees for affected trains.
