(The Bellingham Herald posted the following article on its website on April 20.)

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Amtrak passenger train service from Bellingham to Seattle resumed this morning, two days after a mudslide hit railroad tracks near Everett.

BNSF Railway, which owns the rail tracks, posted a 48-hour curfew on passenger trains north of Seattle early Tuesday after mud, rock and five trees slid off a 100-foot bluff south of Everett. The slide was about 100 feet long and four feet deep.

The tracks were cleared and freight trains resumed their trips that same day, but passenger rail service was postponed as a safety precaution.

The Seattle-to-Chicago Amtrak Empire Builder, which originates in Everett, also will resume service today.

Passengers are encouraged to visit www.Amtrak.com or call 800-USA-RAIL for schedule information and train status updates.
