CHICAGO — An Amtrak police officer severed his right thumb in a Union Station door early Monday in the West Loop, police said.
The man, who was on duty, severed his right thumb about 1:30 a.m. in a front door at Union Station, according to Central District police.
He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in an unknown condition.
The incident is being investigated as a workplace accident.
“We’re not sure how he had contact with the front door,” Central District police Capt. Joe Boisso said. “Hopefully, they can reattach it.”
Because the incident did not affect train movement, Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari did not have information immediately.
