SAN DIEGO — Amtrak has urged people to make arrangements for their Thanksgiving treks as soon as possible, due to an expected surge in ridership, reports TheSanDiegoChannel.com.
The Pacific Surfliner, which travels from San Diego to Santa Barbara, will for the first time offer all-reserved runs during the holiday period.
Normally, reservations are not required, but the days before and after Thanksgiving are among Amtrak’s busiest, with ridership jumping about 30 percent compared to the rest of November, according to Amtrak.
Tickets are available through travel agents, by calling (800) USA-RAIL or via the Amtrak Web site, said Sarah Swain of Amtrak.
“To best avoid the crowds, passengers should try to travel on days other than Wednesday and Sunday,” she added. “In addition, other than Thanksgiving Day, morning trains are usually not as busy as afternoon or evening trains.”
