WASHINGTON — It won’t be costing more to ride Amtrak. At least, not right away.
The passenger railroad says it’s putting off its planned fare increases, which had been set to go into effect on Tuesday.
There’s no word on when the increases will kick-in. Meanwhile, Amtrak says it wants to have additional briefings with public officials and other interested groups.
Amtrak said last week that the increase would be designed partly to make up for higher fuel costs.
Fares nationally would have gone up three dollars — and another dollar in the Northeast Corridor.
