WASHINGTON — Amtrak says it is not raising its security alert level Thursday despite the details emerging about the terror plot disrupted in Britain targeting flights to New York, Washington and California.

Amtrak spokeswoman Karina Romero says security officials with the passenger railroad are monitoring the situation.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff says the terror plot in Britain is “suggestive of an al-Qaida plot.”

In response, the U.S. government has issued its highest terrorism alert ever for commercial flights from Britain to the United States. The government is also stepping up the general alert level for all flights within the U.S. and flights entering the country to code orange.

A terrorist attack last summer in London killed 52 commuters aboard three subway trains and a bus.
