PORTLAND, Ore. — Amtrak begins today offering same-day rail service between Portland and Vancouver, British Columbia.
Portland Mayor Sam Adams and transportation professionals and advocates were scheduled to be on the first train as it left Portland’s Union Station this afternoon.
Rail travel between the two cities previously required an overnight stay in Seattle to transfer to another train. Those who wanted to get to Vancouver, B.C., in one day had to take a bus from Seattle.
