SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Amtrak passengers heading downstate can expect poetry in motion.
Officials announced today that Amtrak is increasing the frequency of trips between Chicago and Quincy. (Quincy is west of Springfield near the Missouri border.)
The train will be called the Carl Sandburg, after the late Chicago poet who won two Pulitzers.
The Quincy train line will run twice a day instead of once a day.
The expansion also includes more trips between Chicago and Carbondale.
Officials say they’re increasing the number of trains to keep up with the growing number of passengers making the commute from Chicago to downstate points.
In the spring Governor Rod Blagojevich the Illinois General Assembly increased state funding for Amtrak from $12.1 million to $24 million.
