PONTIAC, Mich. — Amtrak canceled some trains between St. Louis and Chicago and planned to put passengers from others on chartered buses after a freight train derailment Wednesday blocked tracks.

Union Pacific says the train derailed just after 9:30 a.m. near Pontiac. No one was hurt, but the tracks remain closed.

Amtrak says passengers on two morning trains between the cities were to be bused to their destinations, while two afternoon trains were canceled. Amtrak expected the line to reopen Wednesday night.

Amtrak says passengers on the Texas Eagle train, which travels from Chicago to San Antonio, Texas, and couldn’t get through, were to be bused to either Chicago or St. Louis.
