FORT WAYNE, Ind. — An intoxicated Amtrak train passenger was arrested early Thursday after causing a disturbance on the train as it passed through Kendallville and later kicking a police officer, police said.
According to a written statement from the Kendallville Police Department, Rachael M. Hirt, 35, of Saugatuck, Mich., was charged with battery of a police officer, resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct and intoxication on a common carrier.
Hirt was combative toward Amtrak officials and fought with police when they arrived at the Main Street railroad crossing. Amtrak officials called the police there about 12:30 a.m., the statement said.
Hirt was taken to the Kendallville Police Department for processing when she kicked reserve officer Jeremy Walter in the left knee, causing swelling and redness, the statement said.
She was being held at the Noble County Jail on Thursday in lieu of $4,500 bail.
