WASHINGTON, D.C. — The president of Amtrak says vows a fight to keep the nation’s passenger rail system intact. David Gunn rode Amtrak’s Empire Builder route through North Dakota Thursday.

During a stop in Minot, he said he could not support funding cuts that would hit all the Amtrak routes except the one from Boston to Florida.

Gunn says it’s time to, “draw a line in the sand, and defend the national system.”

Senator Byron Dorgan says Amtrak is a very important part of the nation’s transportation network.
