WASHINGTON, D.C. — Smiths Detection, part of the global technology business Smiths Group, announced that Amtrak has purchased additional SABRE 4000 advanced explosives detection systems.
Using Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS), the hand-held system can quickly detect and identify explosives as well as narcotics, chemical warfare agents and toxic industrial chemicals. However, Amtrak will continue to use only the explosives detection capabilities.
According to Smiths Detection the SABRE 4000 is suited for discreet, random screening of passengers and their belongings and can detect explosives in 10 seconds with a full analysis in 20 seconds, completing the entire process in under a minute. In addition, with the dual sample collection capability, it can be used to collect and review both swabs and vapor samples.
