SHARON HILL, Pa. — Rail traffic was halted in Amtrak’s busy Northeast Corridor this afternoon when a New York-bound train struck and killed a pedestrian.

A northbound Amtrak regional train traveling from Washington, D.C., hit a person around 1:15 p.m. just south of Sharon Hill, in the Philadelphia suburbs, Amtrak spokeswoman Karina Romero said.

Four tracks in the area were shut down around 1:45 p.m. while authorities investigated the accident. They had all been reopened by 4:30 p.m., but a few brief delays continued into the evening rush hour, Romero said.
