Washington — On the “south end” of the Northeast Corridor, it looks like a beautiful day to take a train. Amtrak begins this snowy Monday morning on a regular schedule with no anticipated cancellations between Washington, Philadelphia, New York and Boston.

Amtrak crews worked through the night preparing for the snow by stocking trains with de-icer, shovels and sand. Engineering personnel spent the night ensuring that heaters that prevent switches from freezing were working properly.

In addition, catenary repair cars (or “cat cars”) have been staged at points along the Northeast Corridor to address any ice-related problems with the overhead power lines.

Due to possible flight cancellations and delays, passengers are encouraged to make Amtrak reservations in advance, if possible.

Passengers in affected areas are further advised to take mass transit to the station, allow extra time for boarding, and use extreme caution on exposed station platforms. Passengers may check the status of any Amtrak train online at www.amtrak.com or by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL.
