VANCOUVER — By the summer of 2008, there should be two Amtrak passenger trains running between Vancouver and Seattle each day.
The B.C. government announced today it will contribute a maximum of $4.5 million for a passing track or railing siding in Delta that will allow one train to pass another.
Under an agreement signed with BNSF Railway and Amtrak, provincial taxpayers will pay 57 per cent of the project cost, with the railway companies paying the balance.
“This project will boost tourism dollars, reduce traffic congestion, and ease vehicle emissions on our major transportation corridors and at our border crossings,” B.C. Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon said in a release.
