(The following report appeared on The Albany Business Review website on December 8.)

ALBANY, N.Y. — As the Northeast digs out of the weekend snowstorm, Amtrak is still reporting delays in trains between Washington, D.C. and Boston.

Delays on the afternoon of Dec. 8 were down to 37 minutes northbound and 38 minutes southbound. The Acela Express service is currently operating with an average delay of 18 minutes.

Four of the 121 trains Amtrak operates in the Boston-Washington corridor were canceled on Dec. 8.

The Empire Corridor trains, including service from Albany/Renssealer to New York’s Penn Station are on schedule.

Due to flight delays and a backlog of passengers at many airports, Amtrak trains in the Northeast are currently very crowded, with several reserved trains sold out.

Passengers are being urged to book tickets online at www.amtrak.com or by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL before heading to the station. Amtrak offers “reserved” and “unreserved” trains in the Northeast, and seating on “unreserved” trains is on a first-come, first-first served basis. Acela Express and Metroliner departures require advance reservations.
