REDDING, Calif. — Amtrak California has canceled its bus route from Redding to Southern Oregon because of low ridership.
The canceled route is part of Amtrak California’s Thruway bus service, which originates in Sacramento and is an extension of its train service.
The service to Ashland and Medford began in April 2006, but Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham told the Record-Searchlight newspaper that fewer than five passengers per day had been traveling north of Redding.
Starting Sunday, passengers traveling to Ashland or Medford will be able to do so by taking the Coast Starlight to Klamath Falls and continuing on Amtrak’s SouthWest Point bus service, which is sponsored by the Oregon Department of Transportation.
