WASHINGTON — Amtrak’s Acela trains are back on track, and more trains are on the way, officials announced Thursday.

Just days after a limited number of its high-speed trains finally got rolling again, Amtrak is planning to add more Acela service.

Weekend service resumes on Saturday and trains will leave Washington twice on Saturdays and once on Sundays. Out of New York, they’ll depart once on Saturdays, and twice on Sundays.

Starting Monday, there will be four weekday Acela trips out of both Union Station and Penn Station.

The Acela fleet was yanked in April after cracks were found in several brake rotors.
