BURLINGTON, Vt. — There will be no Amtrak staff at Vermont rail stations beginning this weekend, according to WPTZ-TV in Burlington, Vt.

The national passenger railroad has announced it is laying off staff at all four of its ticket stations in the state.

Those offices are in Essex Junction, St. Albans, White River Junction and Rutland.

Officials said a cut in state funding is the main reason for the layoffs. Six people will lose their jobs.

The Amtrak trains will still run as scheduled and the stations will stay open. However, customers in Vermont must now get their tickets through the mail by making a reservation and paying on-board or through a travel agent.
