WASHINGTON, D.C. — The passenger railroad puts out its newest budget and policy request to Congress today — it includes $1.62 billion for the upcoming fiscal year, up from around 16 percent from the $1.39 billion for this year. Amtrak President and CEO Joe Boardman is using the new request, a nine-page document, to argue for fully funding long-distance passenger routes that for years have had their costs hidden by the profitable Northeast Corridor.
