NEWARK, N.J. — Rail commuters are facing delays between Newark and New York City.

NJ Transit says Amtrak had to repair a defect in the tracks in Kearny. Only one track was open until the problem was fixed by 7:02 a.m.

However, NJ Transit spokesman Dan Stessel says the are delays of 30 to 45 minutes between Newark and New York City on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line.

Stessel says Midtown Direct trains from Newark’s Broad Street Station are up to 15 minutes behind schedule.
