CHICAGO — A St. Louis-to-Chicago Amtrak train derailed near Joliet on Monday night, authorities said.
None of the 112 passengers aboard Lincoln Service Train 304 were injured and the cars remained upright after a set of wheels jumped the track south of Joliet at 7:50 p.m., said Karina Romero, an Amtrak spokesperson.
Passengers remained on the train, which still had power and air conditioning, later Monday night as they waited for buses that would make the final three stops: Joliet, Summit and Chicago’s Union Station.
The train behind it, number 306, also was delayed as a result of the derailment, as was a southbound Chicago-to-St. Louis train. In both cases, buses were dispatched to take passengers to their final destination.
