GRAND JUNCTION, Mich. — Authorities believe a pry bar placed deliberately on railroad tracks in western Michigan caused a short circuit and a small fire on an Amtrak passenger train.
The Herald-Palladium of St. Joseph reports the pry bar measuring about 20 inches long damaged a rail car Thursday night near Grand Junction, about 45 miles southwest of Grand Rapids.
Spokesman David Walker of the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says the bar penetrated the floor of a car. It caused the short circuit and started a fire that was extinguished by crew members.
